It is a sad commentary on the state of our society that value education has to be mentioned under a separate head. At VYAS, we believe that young people grow and learn through experiences. Out of experiences come certain general guidelines to behaviour. These guidelines give direction to our lives and may be called "Values". We therefore, encourage children to make informed choices, freely. We will help children discover alternatives when faced with choices, weigh alternatives thoughtfully, reflecting on the consequences of each alternative. We will encourage children to consider what it is that they price and cherish, give them opportunities to affirm their choices, encourage them to act, behave and live in accordance with their choices.
Children, as all human beings, take their cue not so much from what is said, as to how it is expressed. Thus every programme of the school will convey some value and the very choice and omission area will signal to the child of what is upheld as important at VYAS.
Value education, thus will not be imparted through lessons exclusively on ethics. It will be the very process of socialization, continuous and all-pervading, permeating everything that would be experienced by all- songs, plays, discussions, passages for comprehension, books for rapid reading, titles for creative writing, themes for projects, the system of rewards, appreciation and reprimand and the way these are organised for maximum benefit from them.
